- The Machame route, also known as the Whisky Route is one of the most scenic and recommended routes on Kilimanjaro.
- This popular route with paths through magnificent forests to gain a ridge leading through the moorland zones to the Shira Plateau.
- It then traverses beneath the glaciated precipices of the Southern Ice fields to join the Barafu Route to the summit. Because it can be done over longer periods and the incline is more manageable it has a much higher success rate of summit.
DAY 01: ARRIVA AT KILIMANJARO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TO MOSHI TOWN
Your guide will meet and greet you on arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport and drive to Moshi, you’ll be taken to your accommodation at Moshi town.

DAY 02: MACHAME GATE: MACHAME CAMP: 10.75KM /7MILES | 5-6 HRS | RAINFOREST
- Elevation: 1811m/5942ft to 3021m/9911ft
- Altitude Gained: 1210m
Departing from Moshi drive will take you through the Village of Machame to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate. We will patiently wait for our permits to be issued while watching the hustle and bustle of operations as many crews prepare for the journey ahead Enjoy the beautiful rainforest scenery and windy trails while your guide tells you about the local flora and fauna and natural wildlife. At these lower elevations, the trail can be muddy and quite slippery. We highly recommend gaiters and trekking poles here.

DAY 03: MACHAME CAMP – SHIRA CAMP: 5.3KM/3MI | 4-5HRS | MOORLAND
- Elevation: 3021m/9911ft to 3839m/12,595ft
- Altitude gained: 818m
After a good night’s sleep and a hearty breakfast, we emerge from the rain forest and continue on an ascending path, crossing the valley along a steep rocky ridge. The route now turns west onto a river gorge until we arrive at the Shira campsite. Temperatures begin to drop.

DAY 04: SHIRA CAMP – LAVA TOWER – BARRANCO CAMP: 10.75KM/6MI | 5-6HRS | SEMI-DESERT
- Elevation: 3839m/12,595ft to 3986m/13,077ft
- Altitude gained: 147m
Although you end the day around the same elevation as when you began, this day is very important for acclimatization. From Shira Plateau we continue east up a ridge, passing the junction towards the Kibo peak before we then continue, South East towards the Lava Tower, called the “Shark’s Tooth” (elev. 4650m/15,250ft). Shortly after the tower, we come to a second junction, which leads to the Arrow Glacier. We then continued to descend to overnight at Barranco Camp.

DAY 05: BARRANCO CAMP – KARANGA CAMP – BARAFU CAMP: 8.5KM/5MI | 6-8HRS | ALPINE DESERT
Elevation: 3986m/13,077ft to 4034m/13,235ft to 4662m/15,295ft
Altitude gained: 676m
After breakfast, we continue on a steep ridge up to the adventurous Barranco Wall to the Karanga Valley and the junction, which connects, with the Mweka Trail. This is one of the most impressive days to see the power, agility, and strength of your crew zip over this wall with what appears such ease. We continue up toward Barafu Camp, and once reached you have now completed the South Circuit, which offers a variety of breathtaking views of the summit from many different angles. An early dinner and rest as we prepare for summit night. Overnight at Barafu Camp.

DAY 06: BARAFU CAMP – SUMMIT: 4.86KM /3MI UP | 5-7HRS | – MWEKA CAMP: 13KM /8MI DOWN | 5-6HRS | GLACIERS, SNOW CAPPED SUMMIT

- Altitude gained: 1233m
- Descent to 3106m/10,190ft
- Altitude lost: 2789m
Excitement is building as morning comes with an early start between midnight and 2 a.m. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek.
We continue our way to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers trying to stay warm and focused on the amazing sense of accomplishment that lies ahead. With a switchback motion in a northwesterly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. You will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise during your short rest here. Faster hikers may view the sunrise from the summit. From here on your remaining 1-hour ascent to Uhuru Peak, you are likely to encounter snow all the way.
Congratulations, one step at a time you have now reached Uhuru Peak the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the entire continent of Africa!
After photos, celebrations and maybe a few tears of joy we take a few moments to enjoy this incredible accomplishment. We begin our steep descent down to Mweka Camp, stopping at Barafu for lunch and a very brief rest. We strongly recommend gaiters and trekking poles for uncooperative loose gravel and volcano ash terrain. Well-deserved rest awaits you to enjoy your last evening on the mountain. DAY 07:MWEKA CAMP – MWEKA GATE – MOSHI: 9.1KM/6MI |3-4HRS | RAINFOREST

Altitude lost: 1473m
After breakfast and a heartfelt ceremony of appreciation and team bonding with your crew, it’s time to say goodbye. We continue the descent down to the Mweka Park Gate to receive your summit certificates. As the weather is drastically warmer, the terrain is wet, muddy and steep and we highly recommend Gaiters and trekking poles.
From the gate, a vehicle will meet you at Mweka village to drive you back to your hotel in arusha Enjoy a long overdue hot shower, dinner and celebrations ready for a wildlife safari the next day
With an altitude of 1390m, the town is surrounded by fertile land that yields Coffee, Wheat, and maize to the people of the Waarusha and Wachagga tribes. It is one of Tanzania’s most attractive and lively towns

DAY 08: ARUSHA TO TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK
Morning, you will be picked up at your hotel with a picnic lunch and driven driving towards Tarangire National Park. Lunch will be served at the picnic point.
We set out for Tarangire National Park on a good tarmac road across gently rolling Maasai plains with scattered acacia trees. As we go along the way, we pass many Maa their colorful dress walking on the roadside, riding bicycles, herding cattle, and driving donkey carts. Tarangire National Park, well known for its large elephant herds, is also host to a multitude of other creatures. From the open roof of our state-of-the-art safari jeep, we experience the seasonal swamps, savanna, and life-giving Tarangire River, endeavoring to encounter a multitude of creatures, from zebra to wildebeest, buffalo, elephant, and giraffe, to name a few. It is possible we will glimpse lions stalking prey or leopards watching, relaxing in the trees above.

DAY 09: TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK TO SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK
Early morning game drive in Serengeti to see nocturnal predators returning from hunting and animals waking up in early morning sunrise. Serengeti means ‘endless plain’ in the Maasai language with approximately 14763 square kilometers one of the most interesting parts of Serengeti it’s the great wildebeest migration

DAY 10: FULL DAY GAME DRIVE, SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK
You will enjoy a full day of game viewing in Serengeti, exploring this fantastic game park with your packed lunches in search of the Big 5: Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, and Rhino. Depending on the time of your visit, you may even witness the Great Migration of nearly a million wildebeest and zebras as they move.
One of the most sought-after experiences for wildlife and nature enthusiasts, the Great Migration is the ever-moving circular migration of over a million animals across the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem. The constant movement of columns of wildebeest, joined by a host of companions, follow an age-old route in search of grazing and water. After calving in the southern part of Tanzania’s Serengeti near the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the animal journey through the Serengeti up and around in a clockwise direction towards the Masai Mara in Kenya, before returning once again near the end of the year. Along the way, high drama is always present, as thousands of animals are taken by predators and thousands more are born, replenishing the numbers and sustaining the circle of life.
Hungry predators including lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, wild dogs, and crocs make sure only the strongest survive in this natural spectacle also known as ‘the greatest show on Earth, our trained guide with experience of appearing mostly in the wilderness will take you to the perfect spot to catch them in action.

DAY 11: SERENGETI TO NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA
After breakfast, you will drive from Serengeti National Park to the Ngorongoro Crater.
When you first see Ngorongoro Crater, it looks like a forgotten world. Concealed by the steep volcanic walls is a pristine wilderness including sweeping savannah, pockets of acacia woodland, and glistening lakes and swamps. The crater was created when a large volcano exploded and collapsed in on itself two to three million years ago.
The drive down into the crater is an adventure in itself and when you reach the crater floor, you quickly find yourself amongst large numbers of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, and more than 500 bird species. The crater provides you with the best chance of seeing the endangered black rhino, which can sometimes be spotted in the open grasslands.
After a full afternoon inside the crater, you will head to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay
You will be picked up from your accommodation and be driven straight to the airport which marks the end of your epic adventure.

DAY 12: NGORONGORO CRATER TO ARUSHA TOWN
Today you embark on an unforgettable safari into the Crater. Ngorongoro is one of the most picturesque settings for observing wildlife. With around 30,000 resident animals, the game viewing is excellent all year round and the photographic opportunities are unrivaled! Encounters with animals are frequent in this Garden of Eden, and there is a wide variety to see. Lake Magadi, the soda lake on the floor of the Crater, is home to thousands of Flamingos. This is also one of the best places to see the endangered Black Rhino.
